The Thorne-Moorends Community play, Tulips and Roses written by Maggie Lane with songs by Ian Willey, was originally performed in1991. There are no current plans to revive the play but this would be a very worthwhile project.
The play, which aims to be historically accurate, is set in the 1630’s and tells the story of the opposition of the local community to the drainage of Thorne Moors to create farm-land; to the benefit of King Charles 1st and Cornelius Vermuyden but which would deprive the towns-folk of their Common Rights.
