Thorne-Moorends Town Council
Previous Mayors

Carol D. Williams - 2007 / 2008

I have lived in Thorne for over twenty-three years and am married to Councillor Martin Williams. I have two daughters, Carrie and Alison, who both started their education at Green Top Primary School in Thorne. My husband was educated at Giggleswick Public School and so my daughters also went to that school whilst I attended Wilby Carr Secondary School – so between us my husband and I have seen both sides of the educational system. However, in Thorne we now have a magnificent new school the Trinity Academy that can now give an education that has the potential to rival just about any school in this area.

My father worked at British Ropes in Doncaster for over twenty years, working long shifts to bring up my sisters and myself, so I have seen at first hand what real graft is all about. I have tried to take this experience into my work as a Councillor and if anyone rings me, I will not stop until I feel that I have got a good outcome for my constituents.

I was elected as a DMB Councillor in 1999 and then became a Town Councillor in 2003 and I was recently re-elected in the Town and District elections in May. I was the Deputy Mayor for two years and I am Chair of the Planning, Environmental, Amenities and Leisure Committee on the Thorne- Moorends Town Council.

I am very keen that all the residents in Thorne and Moorends have a decent home to live in, a good environment for work and leisure. As Mayor I want to continue this progress so that Thorne regains its position as a premiere market town, preserving its history and traditions. The regeneration that has taken place over the last few years has enabled both Thorne and Moorends to take great strides forward and I am pleased that the Town Council has been at the forefront of this achievement. At this present time new residential estates are being built in this area, which is becoming a very popular place to live because of the new amenities.

My aim is to visit as many voluntary and charitable organisations in my Mayoral year as I possibly can, as these organisations do so much good in the community with unsung heroes putting in so much time and effort. I want to visit and talk to as many people as possible at the grass roots level.
