Ian Harrison is 53 years old, married with three grown up children. He was born and brought up in and around London, moving to South Yorkshire in 1974.
Qualifications:
BSc. Engineering Geology 1974
MSc. Soil Mechanics 1979
Chartered Civil Engineer 1983
Certificate in Local Council Administration 2005
The first part of his career from 1974 to 1997 was spent with a specialist Civil Engineering Company in South Yorkshire, starting as an Assistant Engineering Geologist and working up to Operations Manager where he was responsible for seventy staff and a turnover of about £10m per annum. His career included a number of site assignments in the UK and overseas, technical reporting and extensive management experience.
He has been the full time Clerk at Thorne-Moorends Town Council from 1997 to the present time, the Councils main achievements during this period having been:
Setting up of local community partnerships and production of Action Plans. Thorne CCTV scheme
Restoration of a large derelict building to become the Winning Post Community Centre.
Improvements to the facilities at Council parks and sports grounds.
Market square refurbishment.
He also represents the Council in the following roles:
Liaison with local employers to provide a range of community facilities and benefits.
Local advocate for Surestart (of which he is Vice Chairman).
Pivotal role in the local service delivery team.
Secretary of the Humberhead Levels Green Tourism Forum.
Current projects being run on behalf of the Council by the Clerk include:
Pedestrian Bridge over the canal in Thorne.
Extensions to the CCTV scheme including a system in Moorends.
Provision of a new pavilion and pitch improvements at Coulman recreation ground.
