Comments: What a very informative site. I have been researching my family tree and have been very interested in Thorne as some of my ancestors lived and died in the town. The first direct decendant was Samuel Peace, born in 1860. His mother, Wilhelmina Meggitt was also born in the town.
If anyone has any information regarding these families, please contact me.
I am also looking for information about a meeting place in Thorne called "The Peace Hall". It was used to consecrate a Masonic lodge, the Lodge St. Nicholas No: 2259, on 25th July 1888. Any info about this would be appreciated
Comments: Wonderful site. It has helped me a lot with my family history. My grandmother was Vivien Pettingale (nee Darley). I'm trying to find out more about her brother and sister, Oswald,(born 1898 and Beatrice(born 1892). I, also would like to know more about Arthur Darley, their father.
Comments: Nice site and very user-friendly. Anyone remember Moorends Junior School...headmaster Fowler, and gaffer Brooks? If so, you might have known me! drop me an e-mail.
Comments: My father inlaw owns a caravan on 7 lakes, Crowle. I wanted to find out information on the surrounding area as I am interested in walking. The website has given me plenty of useful information and my walking boots will be packed next time we visit the caravan.
Comments: My great grandmother,Sarah Foster, was born at Thorne (Black Bull) in 1843. I do not know when she left Thorne, but by 1864 she was living in Epworth where she gave birth to a son, Samuel. She was unmarried and was condemned by her family for this "sin". In 1874 she married Matthias Glew & remained in Epworth until his death in 1905. Sarah then moved to live near her son in Sheffield where she died in 1919. I have not had any success trying to find out anything about the Foster family of Thorne. I would be really grateful for any information about any of Sarah's relatives. Thanks
