Work on the Wyke Gate Road Multi-Use Games Area

Following a period of public consultation - construction of the Multi-Use Games Area at Wyke Gate Road Recreation Groound started on 14th August 2006.
The work comprised:
Installation of mult-use games area adjacent to the existing footpath.
Provision of lighting and CCTV.
Infilling beneath the skatepark jumps.
Provision of a fence around the multi-use games area and the skatepark.
Landscaping and ancillary work.

Funding for the project was as follows:
Biffaward Landfill Tax Scheme.
Barclays spaces for sports.
Thorne-Moorends Town Council.
The project managers were Groundwork Dearne Valley and the main contractor was Bernhards Landscapes (Sheffield) Ltd.
The project was opened by David Milliband MP and the Mayor of Thorne Cllr. Mrs Margaret Holt-Taylor on 29th September 2006.
Funding has also been obtained for free sports sessions for young people of all ages using professionally qualified coaches. Sports include football, basketball, hockey etc.
At the request of local residents funding has been found for a CCTV camera on Wyke Gate Road which will be installed in June.
