Glebe Road Allotments

Situated on Glebe Road on the South Common Estate is a Thorne Town Council owned site, managed by an association. It is a friendly community site with 70 plots all currently occupied. Allotmentiers come from all walks of life but live in Thorne or Moorends which is a stipulation of rental. The Allotments has benefitted from Lottery Funding and local grants.

The kitchen with free tea and coffee is always available. Grants have enabled the erection of good quality fencing and gates alongside a good sized tarmacked entrance road and car park. The soil is rich sandy loam which lends itself to growing all types of fruit, veg and flowers from potatoes and carrots to grapes and melons.

The committee work to keep the plot rents as low as possible and this is achieved by running both a vegetable outlet and a plant outlet on site. The veg shop stocks all local vegetables, fresh duck and hens eggs, chicken feed and compost. The plant shop started growing both bedding plants and veg plants for sale to the general public and plot holders alike. The shops are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10am to 1pm, all are welcome.

If you fancy renting a plot, ask in the shop to put your name on the waiting list.
